Today, the first official day of CES, ATi has presented its new graphics for notebooks. They are, as expected, the ATI Mobility 5000 Series and are presented with nine new models.

Highlight the ATI Mobility 5870 and seeded according to ATi being the most powerful mobile graphics for today’s market, reaching up to 1.12 TFLOPS by a 700 MHz core manufactured in 40 nanometer, GDDR5 memory and be compatible with DirectX 11.

Beneath it we have the ATI Mobility 5850 with 0.8-1 TFLOPS, of course, also at 40 nanometers. More generally all new models are:

New graphics card for laptops ATi

ATI Mobility 5870

ATI Mobility 5850

ATI Mobility 5830

ATI Mobility 5770

ATI Mobility 5750

ATI Mobility 5730

ATI Mobility 5650

ATI Mobility 5470

ATI Mobility 5430

All of them 40 nanometers, with support for DirectX 11 ATi Eyefinity, HDMI and more.

To these new models also have to add the following two:

ATI Mobility 5165

ATI Mobility 5145

That although belonging to the new 5000 Series graphics are nothing more than the previous generation (4000 Series) with some slight changes to be introduced under the new family. In fact only support DX 10.1, for example.

AMD Vision logoTodos expected much of these new ATI graphics for laptops, since we have seen in a computer that sat filtering. In the coming days will be many more who reach this, all manufacturers and most varied prices.

Keep in mind the huge differentiation between the different models ranges. For example, while the 5870 has a capacity of 1.12 TFLOPS, the 5770 “only” has about half (520 GLOPS) and 5470 even less (120 GFLOPS). Of course then depend on each manufacturer choosing graphics card for your model, and depending on that choice the final price of the device will vary greatly. Surely in 5870 we see only the higher-end laptops (Alienware rate for gamers or similar) and the 5430, 5450, 5470 and 5650 as the most widely used.

January is expected strong. Strong in every way, starting as provided by the ESC which will see dozens of new developments in all fields of technology.

One of the main news for consumers who might see at the fair in Las Vegas will be the arrival of new Intel Atom. On them we have already spoken on several occasions that if the Atom 2, that if PineTrail … the fact is that more data are now known: January 11 there will come a new model, the Atom N450 with frequency of 1.66GHz and without the GPU + CPU combo that we promised in PineTrail D. For them still have to wait few more months, but said in March it would a new model (the N470) with evolved features.

Far more interesting is the data they provide from DigiTimes, which suggests that several manufacturers launch netbooks with the new N450, including operating systems of all flavors: Windows 7, Moblin or even the antiquated (but effective) Windows XP. They also discussed the interest of several manufacturers for Google Chrome OS, a system not yet final but is expected to be final face-to mid-2010.

Has not yet been made official, and yet it seems that we have to wait some months to see the ATi 5970 in stores. But I have appeared a series of images of this new card, which would place above the current 5870 and 5850.

It says that for now, the 5970 would be a 5870 × 2, with nuclei very similar to the current graphics, and known as Cypress, as discussed above, will be overcome in future by the GPU Hemlock. The characteristics of the latter are unknown, but by itself it is known that ATi will be more powerful than Cypress.

The ATi 5970 will, if we consider the filtered images, a graphics card with dual-core huge physical dimensions (said to have a length of about 35 centimeters), which of course would play a dual slot and require connections 6 and 8 pin directly from the source.

It was unclear the target date for launch of the ATi 5970, although I would say that we will see over the next months, at most in January 2010. The price could come as early as 600 or $ 700, though as all the information shuffle for now, is not official and definitive.

Intel has announced Intel Core i7 processors for notebooks. There are three models, covering both standard as an Extreme versions.

The Mobile Intel Core i7 Processor and Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition Mobile Processor of the last i7 recently presented with the i5. That is, use a mobile version of Intel P55 chipset, which have called Intel PM55 Express. As expected, also adopt some of its technologies.

And he said they were more like the i7 800 that the first i7 900 because, besides the chipset, will also use dual-channel DDR3 memory, not triple. The three models presented are all four cores and hyperthreading feature, so what will the operating system is 8 threads. We will also present the Turbo mode, which will improve performance automatically when the system demands it.

According to Intel, the new Core i7 processors for notebooks will also offer the option of being modified through a program called Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, which already exists in previous generations and will allow buses to easily overclock the processor.

Many thought that Intel was recollecting the use of sockets. Now on the market some that use the Core i7 LGA 1366, while the current i5 and i7 use the rest of the LGA 1156. “He died on socket 1366? Far from it.

The latest rumors, this time from Guru3D, talk about some new Intel Core i9, as Gulftown at 32 nanometers and would be evolved versions of the first i7. In other words, maximum power and price very bulky.

The interesting thing is that the Core i9, being about new processors that inherit features of the first i7 socket 1366 and used the Intel X58 chipset instead of Intel P55 and 1156 of the Lynnfield.

So if this rumor is true, it will confirm the assumptions that many had: while AMD is promoting a single socket, AM3, Intel processors to develop its current two sockets at once. The thing is, if there are any unexpected changes, like this:

Socket LGA 1366: Intel Core i7 900 Series and Intel Core i9 (rumor).

Socket LGA 1156: Intel Core i7 800 Series, 700 Series Intel Core i5 and Intel Core i3 (rumor).

The Intel Core i9 have some models with 6-core, hyperthreading and that thanks to the i7 emulate existing 12 threads of execution. Also very important, follow the manufacturing process at 32 nm, with the advantages that we have always mentioned: less heat, power and energy consumption more attractive.

His arrival on the market is already estimated for the forthcoming year, in the early months of 2010, prices are still totally unknown.

OmniVision is already ready to bring to market a new sensor for mobile devices whose main virtue is the ability to record content to 1080p and 30 fps. The sensor, CMOS type, is 2-megapixel resolution, and to use that kind of chip, will achieve better results in noise and shooting in poor light conditions.

The sensor, called the OV2710, also works at resolutions of 720p and 640 x 480 pixels. In the first case we can record at 60fps and in lower resolution, 120 fps, which gives us a slow motion effect very interesting with a very acceptable resolution.

The size of the sensor makes it possible to put both laptops and webcams on compact camcorders or even mobile phones.

It seems that we still have to wait several more years, 2010 or 2011, to take our computers the new PCI Express 3.0 slots, successors to the current 2.0 mainly used as connectors of graphics cards with the rest of the team.

PCI-E 3.0 will bring improvements related to the logic transfers data much faster, and very interesting especially in the beginning, it will be compatible with earlier versions of the standard, both the 2.0 and 1.0. Since there are backward compatibility, it is logical that the physical connector is the same as previous versions, though perhaps a little longer to achieve this increased speed of transfer.

It was said that PCI Express 3.0 would already be prepared for the final months of 2009, but now it is confirmed the delay and the signs are that the launch of this new version of the standard factory will reach over 2010, with the first products on the market later that year and with the massive introduction and the face of 2011.

A curious fact is that by 2010 we will have a lot of developments in domestic motherboards: the PCI Express 3.0 should be added the SATA 6 Gbit / s (successor to the current SATA2) and USB 3.0 (evolution on USB 2.0), the two major changes that have been developing for years. Of course we also find with new sockets for processors, although it seems that will not change is the RAM with DDR3 memory with just a couple of years in the market and a whole long life ahead.
